Our bike tour with kids
Prenzlauer Berg has become very popular with families, and so we have chosen this district for our special family tour, designed to ensure plenty of interactive fun as well as interesting information for adults and children alike.
Starting at the Kulturbrauerei we ask ourselves, how did the heavy brewery horses get into their stables on the second floor? After this we set out to explore the tranquil neighbourhood around the brewery, including a stop at the ‘Fat Hermann’ water tower to understand how it worked. Then we are off on a ghost hunt!
At the fairy tale fountain, statues depict the seven fairytales by the bothers Grimm, and the kids can meet, for example, a stone Little Red Riding Hood without the threat of being eaten by a wolf…
We also take in the planetarium on Greifswalder Strasse, built just before the fall of the Berlin Wall by the East Germans, who replaced the old gasometers that stood there with the curiously shaped balconies and distinctive dome of the building with its eye towards the sky.
We end the tour at the beautiful Zion Church, where we consider why the Berlin Bear feels particularly comfortable on its spire. How could he climb the narrow stairs to the top?

Our family bike tour is a little shorter, so that even the youngest ones can keep up. The route is designed to pique the interest of younger participants as much as possible. Here is an example for 6 to 12 year olds:
- Kulturbrauerei – how the brewery horses got to the second floor
- Prenzlauer Berg water tower – why did they have water towers in the past and how did they work?
- Is the Musikbrauerei really haunted?
- Fairy tale fountain – who is that sitting at the water?
- A short lap around the Velodrom Arena
- Triangular balconies at Thälmann park – how East Germany built houses
- Planetarium Prenzlauer Berg – see the whole starry sky from your armchair
- Gleimtunnel – how many cast-iron columns support the old railroad bridge?
- Zion church – humming around the church tower
Our guides adapt the bike tours to weather conditions, participants’ interests, street closures and sometimes their own preferences. Changes and deviations are possible.

All Berlin on Bike public bike tours start at the Kulturbrauerei (means “Culture Brewery”) in the Prenzlauer Berg district. The brewery grounds have several entrances, the best way to get to us is through the archway at Knaackstraße 97. From the underground station Eberswalder Straße (underground line 2, three stops north of Alexanderplatz) it’s a 200-metre walk.
For private tours with your own bikes, the start can be arranged individually. Delivery of our bikes for your private bike tour is also possible for an additional charge – but this is usually only worthwhile for larger groups.
-
Berlin on Bike offers daily public bike tours in English, Dutch and German. You can choose from several themed bike routes in our program and usually register at short notice. The average group size is 8 to 12 people, with a maximum of 15 guests. The bicycle tours take place when a minimum of 4 participants registers.
We also offer private bicycle tours: with these your family, friends or colleagues will enjoy the exclusive attention of one of our bike guides. Private tours can be tailored to suit individual needs, including as many breaks as you might wish for, and bespoke catering stops at places requested, as well as detours to particular sites you might be interested in seeing.
In addition to our “main languages” English, Dutch and German, private tours can also be booked in French, Spanish or Swedish.
For the private bike tours, we ask for a little more advance notice when booking, to give us time to find the right guide for your group. However, you may also be lucky with a request at short notice, e.g. the day before.

On average our group bike tours consist of between eight and twelve participants. On our regular bike tours, fifteen people per group is our maximum. If there are more registrations, we provide more guides, to ensure that groups remain manageable in size, for the sake of safety and for the enjoyment of our guests.
A minimum of four guests is required for a bike tour to run.
In the case of private bike tours, we recommend that groups do not exceed fifteen guests at a time. Larger groups will be divided up, with more guides allocated to the tour.
