Berlins Oases

A foray into the unknown Berlin

Eine Oase in Berlin

Berlin is big, colourful and lively, and for this reason sometimes exhausting. At the same time, there are a great many peaceful, contemplative places and beautifully bizarre projects that you won’t find in any tourist information guides. Even a lot of Berliners don’t know about them.

We discovered a lot of these places quite coincidentally while out and about in our home town of Berlin. But what kind of tour would include these kinds of places?

This is how we got the idea of doing a tour called “Berlin’s Oases”. The guides from our team each have their own individual oasis tour. Some might lead the tour through parks and along waterways, before coming out in oddly barren city landscapes – behind which you would never have expected a little bit of paradise. Or the tour might go to places that have hosted the kind of strange events that won’t be found in history books. Join us on a foray into the unknown Berlin.

Give yourself a surprise, or ask us a few days before hand where we have planned our stops.

Das YaamAm GendarmenmarktAfrica or Chocolate?
In the summer months we indulge in delicious African specialities in “Yaam”. In the colder months we guzzle hot chocolate at the chocolatiers “Fassbender und Rausch” on Gendarmenmarkt. .

Auf der FähreAm Gendarmenmarkt35% of the Berlin city area is covered by forests and parks and 7% is covered by water. Not all of these waterways are criss-crossed with bridges. In five different spots its “All aboard ye landlubbers!”

Sit on colourful walls, watch life go by, concoct your plans for the evening ahead or unwind for the weekend. ein grüner Hinterhof

Many of Berlin’s courtyards are little rest and respite areas. You can’t hear the noise from the street, a tree stretches its branches into the sun, the sound of birds chirping is accompanied by music coming out of one or another of the surrounding apartments, while at mealtimes the aroma of home cooked meals wafts by.

im WaldAuf dem BergMost of the hills in Berlin were made artificially from the debris of buildings bombed during the Second World War. Trees and meadows allow Berliners to forget these origins and feel like they’re in the Alps.

Umtrunk in der LaubeHinter dem TachelesWhether you’re in some rustic dwelling in a garden colony or visiting some anarchistic-alternative artist’s courtyard, getting a drink in Berlin isn’st difficult.

OststrandOststrandBeach bars have been a huge hit in the last couple of years. At “Oststrand” you can sit in the sand, or with a bit of luck, in a roofed wicker beach chair on the banks of the river. Or you could board the little pirate ship that weighs anchor on the Spree.

This little virtual tour is not comparable to bike tour participation.
